Job Overview
Join the RAC as a Super Flex Roadside Mechanic.
You’ll provide the flexibility our service relies on, delivering roadside assistance to members across the Portsmouth cluster.
The role offers a competitive base pay of £50,669 per year with the potential to earn up to £57,000 through bonuses and overtime.
Location
Portsmouth cluster – covering Portsmouth, Havant, Waterlooville, Fareham, Gosport, Chichester, and Emsworth.
Work is organised locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.
Schedule
Average 40 hours per week across the year.
Roster released seven days in advance, core working hours confirmed three days prior.
Shifts fall between 06:00 and 02:00 and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose faults and perform repairs to get members safely back on the road.
- Handle a variety of roadside incidents – from diagnostics to flat tyres and battery issues.
- Maintain your own kit, keep your van stocked, and manage reports with precision.
- Provide clear communication, support each member, and keep everyone moving.
- Exercise sound judgment in prioritising calls and deciding on the best fix.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience, *or*
- 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
- A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.
