Diesel Technician – Lincoln NE

Overview:
An established and reputable fleet maintenance operation is seeking a skilled Diesel Technician to join our team. This role involves diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of heavy-duty vehicles and custom-built equipment. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver with hands-on mechanical expertise and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct both major and minor repairs on diesel engines, drivetrains, braking systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.

  • Diagnose electronic control issues and perform repairs using diagnostic tools and equipment.

  • Perform DOT-compliant inspections and ensure equipment safety standards are consistently met or exceeded.

  • Carry out scheduled maintenance and perform targeted component replacements based on condition.

  • Address chassis-related issues, including steering, suspension, brake systems, and driveline repairs.

  • Assist in modifications and repairs to custom equipment under supervision when required.

  • Communicate equipment status and additional repair needs to supervisory personnel.

  • Identify and report unsafe equipment conditions promptly.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with both manual-based and independent mechanical diagnostics.

  • Vocational or technical training is a plus, but not required for experienced candidates.

  • Solid knowledge of air brake systems, hydraulics, and electrical systems in diesel vehicles.

  • Background in routine servicing and preventative maintenance of Class 8 trucks.

  • Capable of managing time effectively to complete repairs efficiently.

  • Must be able to accurately complete repair documentation and communicate clearly with team leads.

  • Ability to work independently while following written and verbal instructions.

Job Requirements:

  • At least two years of hands-on diesel mechanic experience preferred.

  • Must supply own hand tools for general truck and trailer repairs.

  • Physical ability to routinely lift or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Comfortable working in an environment with moving parts and variable outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures, dust, and fumes.
