Job Description
Communications Technician
We are seeking a Communications Technician to assist in the installation, planning, and layout of communications cabling and equipment in accordance with all applicable codes, standards, specifications, and plans. This is a full-time position with company benefits.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience using hand and power tools, a foundational understanding of telecom systems, and the ability to read blueprints. Technicians are expected to pursue BICSI Technician certification to advance their skills and knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely use hand and power tools
- Consistently follow safety policies and wear required PPE
- Participate in daily safety and work briefings
- Install and terminate various types of low-voltage cabling, including:
- Fiber Optic, Cat 5, 6, 6A cables
- Pathways and cable trays
- Cabinets, racks, and telecom devices
- Prefabricated components and assemblies
- Telecommunications grounding systems
- Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and document ISP/OSP telecom systems
- Survey existing copper and fiber infrastructure using electronic tools
- Sketch rack elevations and layout floor/wall plans
- Train and supervise apprentices on proper cable installation
- Perform QA checks to ensure compliance with installation standards
- Maintain a clean and organized job site
- Secure all tools and materials daily
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in the commercial communications industry
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Reliable transportation to/from job sites
- Ability to pass a basic telecommunications knowledge test
- Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
- Punctual, dependable, and team-oriented
Physical & Work Requirements
- Lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly
- Relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance
- Work at heights up to 60 feet on scaffolds, lifts, catwalks, and ladders
- Perform physical tasks such as walking, squatting, crawling, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead
- Good vision (corrected acceptable), color vision, and hearing
- Wear work-appropriate clothing (e.g., long pants and shoulder-covering shirts; not provided by the company)
- Provide basic hand tools as listed prior to first day
Desired Qualifications
- BICSI Technician Certification (or willingness to pursue)
- Manufacturer and/or Fiber Optic Certifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
