Description:
Connecticut Institute For Communities, Inc. (CIFC), seeks to hire a full-time Bilingual Financial Counselor. Under the direction of the Team Lead Billing and Financial & Insurance Assistance, the Financial Counselor identifies eligibility for medical benefits and assists patients with their medical, social, and financial needs. Performs health education and outreach activities including referrals for CIFC Health services.
Financial Counselor Responsibilities:
- Conduct consultations with self-pay or underinsured patients to identify low income and eligibility to participate in and/or entitlement programs such as Medicaid, including presumptive eligibility for HUSKY and other health benefits and updating patient information for patient medical care.
- Screens patients regarding financial information including income, assets, and estimates of charges for service; Assess potential eligibility, link and refer patients to State and Federal reimbursement programs
- Conducts patient registration, information and referral
- Update patient information including updating profile; verify patient insurance coverage and assist patients in working with insurance companies.
- Obtain benefit information to determine new and ongoing eligibility status
- Collecting financial and demographic information from patients; Scan and process paperwork in timely fashion.
- Explaining and enforcing billing and registration policies
- Assisting patients by interpreting medical bills, consulting with Billing Department on patient's behalf and/or make direct referrals to Billing when needed.
- Provide age, race, sex and culturally specific educational approaches to agencies, organizations, and resource persons who serve the targeted communities.
- Attend and successfully complete training courses through the CT Health Exchange / CHCACT if not already certified within the probationary period.
- Outreach events as needed.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications: Minimum High School Diploma, AA preferred, applicants with multiple language capabilities (English, Spanish, and/or Portuguese) is required.

Compensation details: 18-21 Hourly Wage
