Job Description
A K-12 educational setting in the Chicago area is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a 7th-grade student during the 2025-2026 school year. This contract position offers the opportunity to work closely with students, educators, and staff to facilitate effective munication and foster an inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide clear and accurate sign language interpretation for a 7th-grade student in classroom and related school activities
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure effective munication access
- Assist in creating an accessible learning environment by working within the educational team
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- Adhere to ethical standards and district policies related to sign language interpretation in schools
Qualifications:
- Approval as a Sign Language Interpreter by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
- A minimum EIPA score of 3.0 or higher (temporary approval may be granted)
- Experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably with K-12 students
- Strong knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and educational interpreting techniques
- Effective munication skills and ability to work collaboratively with students and educators
Location:
- Based in the Chicago, IL area, with potential assignments in Ottawa, IL, and surrounding regions
