Senior Software Engineers are intrinsic to the RAC's success, playing a critical role in delivering our technical vision through exceptional software engineering practices. This role sits within our Retention team, who build our myRAC member services and the tooling our contact centre agents use to support members every day.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design, build and ship AI‑powered features end‑to‑end – combining LLMs, prompt engineering and data to solve real business problems.
- Develop and maintain the .NET services and APIs behind myRAC and our contact centre tooling, including the integrations that connect them to other systems, products and services across the business.
- Own and contribute to technical design, architecture, and solution decisions, ensuring systems remain scalable, secure, and fit for business needs.
- Implement and influence the technical strategy, helping keep RAC's platforms modern, reliable, and commercially appropriate.
- Champion quality, automation, and continuous improvement across the full software development lifecycle.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring across engineering squads without direct line management.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to translate complex or incomplete requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Support the wider technology community through recruitment, knowledge sharing, architectural guidance, and operational support.
Desired Experience
- Deep experience building high‑quality backend systems using .NET Core, C#, APIs, SQL, Snowflake and cloud technologies (preferably Azure).
- Strong understanding of event‑driven architectures, microservices, containerisation (Kubernetes) and modern engineering patterns.
- Hands‑on experience building production applications with LLMs – including prompt engineering, evaluation, and integrating models into real‑world systems.
- A data‑oriented mindset – comfortable digging into data yourself, drawing insight from it, and partnering with our data analyst to help the team make well‑informed decisions.
- Proven experience taking a technical leadership role within agile engineering squads.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to make sense of complex or incomplete business requirements.
- Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies and best‑practice software engineering.
- Self‑motivated, analytical and results‑driven, with the ability to work in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
