Job Description: An exciting opportunity has arisen at R.A. Dalton for an experienced Sales Estimator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate quotations for domestic and commercial service works, repairs, and maintenance. You will work closely with our engineers and servicing team to ensure every proposal is cost‑effective, competitive, and aligned with client expectations. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail, a good understanding of construction or civil engineering costings, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will liaise directly with customers, suppliers, and internal departments. Reporting to the Senior Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the continued success and growth of the RA Dalton service department.
General Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate and timely quotations for servicing works
- Review tender documents, technical drawings, and site information to produce detailed cost breakdowns
- Liaise with the procurement department, suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive prices and ensure up‑to‑date cost data
- Collaborate with key account managers, the servicing scheduling team and engineers to ensure all quotes are practical and achievable
- Follow up quotations and maintain records of outcomes and feedback
- Assist in preparing documentation for tender submissions and contract handovers
- Ensure all quotes comply with company standards, H&S requirements, and client specifications
- Contribute to process improvements and cost‑saving initiatives within the estimating function
Requirements and Skills:
- Previous experience in estimating, cost preparation, or quotation work
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Systems (particularly Excel)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple quotations and deadlines simultaneously
- Good understanding of materials, labour, and equipment costings
- Team player with a proactive approach to problem solving
- Commitment to accuracy, professionalism, and customer satisfaction
