Job Description

RA Dalton is looking for an ambitious and commercially focused Commercial Business Development Manager to drive the continued growth of our business across the UK.

This role will play a key part in identifying commercial opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, strengthening client relationships and supporting the expansion of our services within the water and wastewater industry.

The successful candidate will act as the bridge between our operational capabilities and commercial growth objectives.

They will be responsible for identifying opportunities with new and existing clients, conducting site visits and audits, developing proposals, supporting tender opportunities and helping to position RA Dalton as the preferred service provider within the sectors we operate while ensuring clients receive exceptional service and support.

This role offers significant scope for development and the opportunity to make a real impact on the future direction and growth of the business.

  • General Responsibilities
  • Drive commercial growth through the identification and development of new business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective, existing and key strategic clients.
  • Conduct site visits, surveys and operational audits to identify opportunities for additional services and contract growth.
  • Develop detailed audit reports and recommendations that support client improvements and generate commercial opportunities.
  • Identify, qualify and develop sales leads across target sectors and geographical regions.
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure proposed solutions meet client requirements and company capabilities.
  • Prepare and present professional proposals, quotations and business cases.
  • Support the preparation and submission of tender opportunities and framework applications.
  • Develop long-term account plans for key customers and identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling services.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and identify opportunities to strengthen client retention and partnership development.
  • Attend networking events, exhibitions, industry conferences and client meetings to promote RA Dalton's services.
  • Analyse market trends, competitor activity and emerging industry opportunities.
  • Collaborate with senior management to support business growth strategies and revenue targets.
  • Represent RA Dalton professionally and positively at all times.

Requirements & Skills

  • Proven experience in a Commercial, Business Development, Account Management or Sales role.
  • Demonstrable experience generating revenue growth and developing customer relationships.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify opportunities and convert them into business outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience preparing proposals, reports and commercial documentation.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and target-driven.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK.
  • Previous experience within the water, wastewater, utilities, environmental or infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience working with local authorities, housing associations, utility providers and commercial organisations.
  • Understanding of tendering processes and public sector procurement.
  • Experience conducting operational assessments, compliance audits or site surveys.
  • Knowledge of wastewater pumping systems, treatment processes or drainage infrastructure.
  • Experience using CRM and business intelligence systems.
