The Role Overview
As the Senior Design Manager, you will lead and manage the full design process from tender and pre-construction stages through to project completion and handover. Working closely with internal teams, consultants, and clients, you will ensure design delivery is aligned with programme, budget, compliance, BIM strategy, and overall project objectives.
What you'll do:
- Manage and coordinate the full project design process from bid stage through delivery
- Oversee design programmes, deliverables, and consultant performance
- Ensure designs meet client requirements, technical standards, legislation, and project objectives
- Lead design team coordination across multiple disciplines
- Manage BIM processes and digital design coordination
- Support design risk management, compliance, and project quality standards
- Work closely with operational and commercial teams to ensure successful project delivery
What you'll bring to the role:
- Proven experience delivering major construction projects (£50m-£200m+)
- Strong background managing projects through bid, PCSA, and delivery stages
- Healthcare sector experience and understanding of planning/building control processes
- Knowledge of JCT and NEC contract forms
- Experience using BIM, CDE platforms, and digital coordination tools
- Professional qualification in Architecture, Engineering, or related discipline
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
