SEMH Teacher – Wirral

Pay Rate: Β£150–£250 per day

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated SEMH Teacher to join a welcoming school in the Wirral (Post Code: NG10) area.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting pupils with complex emotional needs, behavioral challenges, and mental health difficulties to help them access education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage challenging behaviors using specialized, positive intervention strategies.
  • Teach coping mechanisms, self-regulation techniques, and social skills.
  • Maintain a highly structured, predictable, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Provide emotional support to reduce anxiety and build pupil self-esteem.
  • Differentiate standard curriculum plans to match individual learning styles and emotional capacities.
  • Assess academic and behavioral development using Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Run small-group or one-to-one sessions focusing on emotional literacy.
  • Work closely with therapists, psychologists, and speech coaches.
  • Maintain regular, transparent communication with parents and carers.
  • Monitor student well-being and report any child protection concerns immediately.
  • Direct Teaching Assistants (TAs) to ensure consistent behavior management.

Requirements

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is essential.
  • PGCE or relevant teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience working with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), specifically focusing on SEMH.
  • Certified in recognized de-escalation and physical intervention techniques (such as Team-Teach or MAPA).
  • Deep understanding of nurture principles, trauma-informed practices, and positive behavior support strategies.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and empathetic in highly stressful or challenging situations.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for a new DBS.
  • Right to work in the UK.
