Your New Employer
Set within the stunning Charlton Estate near Alnwick, the Doxford Group is one of Northumberland's leading luxury hospitality and events businesses. A proud family-run organisation, we have spent over a decade delivering extraordinary weddings, events and guest experiences. Our portfolio includes two award-winning wedding venues, Charlton Hall and Doxford Barns, alongside Tempus Hotel, Bar & Restaurant, which joined the group in May 2023 and was recently voted among The Times Top 100 UK Hotels.
We are now seeking an experienced and driven Hotel General Manager to oversee The Tempus hotel and help take the business to the next level.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Company Directors, you will support operational excellence at The Tempus, working closely with all Heads of Department to ensure every guest journey from first enquiry to final departure exceeds expectations. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role. We are not looking for someone who prefers to manage from behind a desk; we want a front-runner who is present, proactive and fully immersed in the day-to-day operation. You will balance high-level strategic direction with visible operational leadership, driving service standards, profitability and team engagement in line with the long-term vision of our family-run estate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and operational oversight across Tempus Hotel.
- Support, mentor and challenge Heads of Department to drive performance and accountability, including collaborating with HoDs to produce an efficient staffing roster.
- Elevate service standards and continuously enhance the guest experience.
- Monitor guest feedback, identify trends and implement meaningful improvements.
- Ensure each venue maintains impeccable presentation and full compliance at all times.
- Report weekly to the Company Directors on performance, KPIs and budget alignment, presenting clear action plans where required.
- Work closely with the Group Sales Director to maximise revenue across all channels.
- Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure strong financial controls and delivery of key metrics (including Labour % and Gross Profit %).
- Support recruitment, retention and team development across all departments.
- Take ownership of guest feedback, resolving issues professionally and efficiently.
- Maintain strong communication with maintenance and operations teams to resolve defects quickly and effectively.
- Be present during key operational periods, including weekends and peak events.
- Step in operationally wherever needed, leading by example and setting the standard.
About You
The ideal candidate will:
- Have proven experience leading teams within a full-service hotel or luxury hospitality environment.
- Demonstrate clear and stable career progression.
- Be an inspirational and visible leader who builds strong, motivated teams.
- Balance commercial thinking with operational excellence and guest focus.
- Possess resilience, personality and vision to drive a multi-site business forward.
- Be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-expectation luxury setting.
What We Offer

- £5,000 guaranteed service charge
- Generous holiday entitlement
- Pension scheme
- Staff discounts including overnight stays, food and drink
