From our origins as specialists in civils and groundworks, we’ve evolved into a leading construction contractor operating across Northern England and Southern Scotland. Our diverse portfolio spans both civils and construction, including multi-million-pound housing developments, refurbishment projects, new builds, steel frame construction, retail, schools, roads, car parks, water industry works, design and build projects, and more. Our focus remains on steady growth by delivering quality, working safely, and consistently adding value.
The Role
As our current Chief Quantity Surveyor has stepped down to a part-time role prior to retirement, we are seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead and manage our Quantity Surveying team and drive cost management across all projects. This is a senior leadership role, reporting directly to the Managing Director, where you will mentor and develop Quantity Surveyors, survey projects, oversee commercial performance, support project delivery teams in contract administration, and ensure compliance. Your expertise will shape procurement strategies, manage high-value contracts, and influence business decisions at a high level.
A Day in the Life
Your day will combine strategic leadership with hands-on commercial oversight. You’ll set departmental priorities, review budgets, and provide accurate forecasting to the management team. You’ll lead negotiations on high-value contracts, resolve disputes, and ensure robust risk management. You’ll work closely with Contracts Managers, Engineers, and clients to ensure projects deliver maximum value and timely completion while maintaining compliance with legal, safety, and quality standards.
Measuring Success
Success in this role means delivering strong leadership that optimises project profitability, strengthens client relationships, and supports the strategic growth of the business. This role also offers the opportunity to shape the QS function and influence future commercial strategy, with potential for career progression.
Working Hours & Remuneration
This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. You’ll receive a competitive senior-level salary with a company car. You will automatically enroll in our company pension scheme and receive 33 days' holiday, including bank holidays. You will be included in our annual bonus scheme linked to company performance.
Our Company Culture
We’re proud to have an exceptional staff retention rate of 94%. Over a third of our workforce has been with the business for five years or more, with many team members reaching significant milestones such as 10, 15, 20, and even 25 years of continuous service. These figures reflect a business that values loyalty and consistency. We place a genuine emphasis on recognition and wellbeing. Our Managing Director personally awards Long Service Milestones, and our dedicated Wellbeing Wall highlights mental health resources, staff news, and positive achievements. We also promote an open-door culture that encourages clear, honest, and effective communication across all levels of the business.
