Estimating & Procurement Support (Electrical) in Oldbury

R.D. Jukes & Co Ltd has been an electrical contractor since 1968. From our office in Oldbury, we deliver electrical installation and maintenance projects for commercial, industrial and public sector clients across the Midlands and beyond. We are part of Ventro Group, a fire safety, building compliance and electrical services business backed by private equity investment from KLAR Partners and operating through four brands: Ventro, Firntec, HJS and R.D. Jukes. The group is growing quickly and investing in its people and systems.

The Role

We need someone with a solid electrical background to join our Estimating team at Oldbury, supporting both estimating and procurement. This is an immediate requirement and we are moving quickly. Reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will keep quotations moving from enquiry to submission and provide day-to-day support and cover to Procurement. To be clear on the nature of the job, this is a support role rather than a standalone estimating role. You will not be pricing projects end to end. You will work alongside experienced estimators and buyers, learn how we price and procure work, and build the knowledge that opens the door to an estimating career in time.

What you will be doing:

• Managing quotation enquiries, including registration, filing and distribution of drawings and documentation.
• Issuing and progressing supplier enquiries, and checking what comes back for compliance.
• Basic quantity take-offs from drawings, particularly luminaires and associated materials.
• Inputting material and labour quantities from Excel schedules into our Trimble estimating system, and preparing quotation write-ups.
• Checking supplier stock availability, raising purchase orders, and receiving and booking in deliveries.
• Sourcing materials through our Monday.com system, updating daily copper rates, and meeting suppliers to build product knowledge.
• Covering and supporting Procurement during absence and periods of peak workload.

What We’re Looking For:

Skills

• Accuracy and attention to detail with quantities, prices and schedules. An error in a take-off or an order carries all the way through to the price and to site.
• Confident supplier contact by phone and email, including chasing for what you need.
• Competent with Excel and able to pick up new systems. Full training given on Trimble and Monday.com.
• Organised and a clear communicator, able to keep several live enquiries moving at once.

Knowledge

• Essential: Working knowledge of electrical products and materials. You need to understand what the products are, where they are used and why they are specified.
• Essential: Familiarity with electrical supplier and manufacturer ranges and how the supply chain works.
• Desirable: Understanding of the purchase order, stock and goods-in process.
• Desirable: Electrical qualifications such as City & Guilds or a completed apprenticeship are welcome but not required.

Experience

• Essential: Experience gained in an electrical environment, whether wholesale, contracting, procurement or installation.
• Essential: A role involving supplier contact, quotations, purchasing or materials.
• Highly desirable: A background in electrical wholesale, for example trade counter, internal sales, projects or branch roles. This brings the product knowledge and supplier contacts that make the biggest difference here.
• Desirable: Electrical installation experience, or previous support to an estimating, procurement or buying team.
