We are currently seeking a motivated and reliable Recycling Operative/Banksman - Team Leader to join our busy waste management site. You will be responsible for leading a team of recycling operatives in the identification, pre-sorting, and removal of recyclable materials from the waste stream before it enters the processing plant. This role involves a hands-on approach to waste handling, team coordination, and close collaboration with site management to ensure maximum recycling output and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of recycling operatives on the waste picking line and within the yard.
- Oversee and actively participate in the pre-sorting of waste to remove recyclable materials before processing.
- Inspect incoming skips and wagons prior to tipping to identify hazardous or non-compliant materials.
- Assist with the coordination and safe arrival of waste to ensure smooth site operations.
- Act as the first point of contact between the site manager/supervisor and recycling operatives, ensuring clear communication and instruction.
- Support the site manager with general yard duties, including cleaning, maintenance, and plant upkeep.
- Monitor the quality and consistency of the recyclables picked to meet site recycling targets.
- Promote and enforce safe working practices and site rules at all times.
- Train and mentor new operatives as required, supporting a positive and productive work environment.
The Successful Candidates will:
- Have previous experience in a waste or recycling environment (preferred).
- Hold a Full Driving License (preferred).
- Possess strong communication skills with the ability to give clear instructions and feedback.
- Exhibit a positive, can-do attitude with a willingness to lead by example.
- Have a good understanding of health and safety practices within a waste yard environment.
- Be able to work effectively in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Be reliable, punctual, and proactive in identifying and resolving issues.
- Have basic mechanical awareness and willingness to assist with minor maintenance tasks.
