We’re launching a new wine bar in Chester and we’re looking for a Bar Manager to lead the charge. Café Barbette is a brand-new concept arriving in Exchange Square this summer. Think relaxed European café meets destination bar, with a little Chester magic thrown in. Our weekends will begin with easygoing drinks, great wine, and laid-back northern charm. By night (especially weekends), the lights dim, the energy lifts, vinyl DJs take over, and the space transforms into a buzzing, music-led bar built for a crowd who want something a bit special.
A curated wine list with personality, punchy, well-crafted cocktails, and a simple, elegant, produce-led sharing menu with real attention to detail in every pour, plate, and playlist.
What You'll do:
- You’ll lead the bar from pre-planning to opening day and beyond!
- Shape the team, set the tone, and talk about wine like it's an old friend you're slightly obsessed with.
- You’ll balance calm, welcoming service with high-energy nights and make sure both feel effortless.
What we're looking for:
- Someone who loves hospitality, adores wine, thrives in atmosphere-led venues, and knows how to run a tight, ambitious bar without losing the fun in it.
- Most importantly, someone who gets the brief: To knock the socks off Chester.
This is a full-time, on-site position in Chester for a Bar Manager. The Bar Manager will oversee the daily operations of the bar, ensuring exceptional customer service, managing staff training, and maintaining high standards in food and beverage offerings.
Key Responsibilities:
- To provide present and approachable leadership to colleagues and external partners.
- Motivating the team below you to drive sales and encourage a venue atmosphere focused on creating unforgettable experiences.
- To ensure the team has the tools available to assist them in delivering authentic and personalized experiences to our guests.
- To oversee the maintenance and repair of bar equipment and facilities, escalating issues where required to the General Manager or Bar Operations.
- To ensure the bar operates at a 5 star EHO standard.
- To ensure allergen information is continually kept up-to-date.
- To develop and implement any bar procedures needed for delivering our brand mission.
- To ensure the bar is clean, organised, and well-maintained.
- To monitor bar sales and implement strategies to increase revenue and sustainability.
- To optimise stock management and control costs to achieve budgeted GP.
- To conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback.
- To use tools at your disposal to motivate and engage front of house staff in financial performance and driving spend per head.
