The Sr Platform Engineer supports QVC by leveraging deep SQL Server expertise to improve existing database environments and lead the design and implementation of advanced data architectures focused on security, reliability, and performance. The role guides modernization projects such as cloud migration and Azure deployments, collaborating across teams to create scalable solutions for QVC's critical enterprise and digital applications.
Work Location: This role is remote with quarterly travel to our Knowsley office.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, secure, administer, and monitor SQL Server infrastructure (on-prem and Azure: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
- Provide production support and participate in a 24x7 on‐call rotation.
- Troubleshoot issues, document procedures, and guide Root Cause Analysis and resolutions.
- Develop and implement backup, recovery, and database management strategies, including upgrades and patches.
- Support Agile/Scrum processes, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
- Mentor team members, foster collaboration, and serve as technical lead on projects.
- Research and recommend SQL Server/Azure technologies, addressing risks and integrating automation and monitoring tools.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of hands‐on experience with SQL Server administration, T‐SQL development, and backup/recovery strategies, including recent versions (2022/2019/2016/2012).
- Expertise in high availability, performance tuning, capacity planning, and advanced troubleshooting.
- Experience with Azure database environments, automation using PowerShell/Azure CLI, and familiarity with PostgreSQL, CosmosDB, or Couchbase.
- Background in configuration management, database security, and compliance (PCI/SOX), with Agile/Scrum team experience.
- Understanding of Agentic AI fundamentals and experience automating support tasks.
