We’re partnering with a specialist bank that builds critical payments and FX infrastructure for institutions worldwide, and they’re looking for a Director of Engineering to lead the next phase of their transformation. The business is modernising its legacy platforms and moving toward an agentic, AI-assisted engineering model. They need a senior leader who can set that direction and also earn credibility by getting close to the detail, not someone who leads from a slide deck. This role combines executive scope with technical depth.

You’ll own the strategy, structure and delivery performance of a ~20-30-person engineering organisation, and you’ll be expected to engage as a peer with strong, opinionated senior engineers.

Why this role is interesting

  • Own the AI-engineering agenda. Teams already use Claude and Codex daily. You’ll turn that ad-hoc adoption into a measured, industrialised practice and be accountable for proving its ROI to the business.
  • Reshape the organisation for scale. You’ll rebalance a top-heavy team and build a strong senior-to-mid engineering bench that can grow with the business.
  • Set one engineering standard across a hybrid delivery model. You’ll bring in-house, offshore and outsourced vendor teams under a single bar for quality and delivery, without losing the pace that got them here.
  • Shape the technology direction at leadership level. You’ll work closely with the Head of Architecture to turn design intent into resilient, high-volume systems in production.
