Overview
The Vice President of Engineering for the Planning, Economics & Reserves Software Suite will lead all aspects of engineering execution and delivery across a critical domain in our energy software portfolio. This role requires a unique combination of deep technical expertise, oil & gas domain knowledge, and a proven track record of scaling cloud-based enterprise software products. Reporting to the Chief Product & Technology Officer, you will be responsible for setting technical direction, building high-performing teams, and delivering robust, modern SaaS solutions that meet the evolving needs of upstream operators.
Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead multiple engineering teams responsible for developing the Planning, Petroleum Economics, and Reserves product suite.
- Establish and enforce modern software engineering practices (Agile, CI/CD, DevOps, microservices/containerization).
- Ensure quality, scalability, and performance across all applications, with a focus on cloud-native SaaS architectures.
Technical Strategy & Execution
- Translate product vision and business requirements into clear engineering roadmaps and delivery plans.
- Guide architectural decisions and technology adoption, ensuring alignment with long-term platform goals.
- Promote the integration of AI, data science, and advanced analytics into applications
- Apply a deep understanding of the upstream oil & gas lifecycle, including economic modeling (e.g., NPV, IRR, sensitivities) and reserves reporting standards (e.g., PRMS, SEC).
- Collaborate with product managers and customers to ensure technical solutions meet real-world planning and reserves workflows.
- Leverage familiarity with industry-standard tools (e.g., ARIES, ValNav, Merak) to inform design and differentiation.
Team Development & Culture
- Recruit, develop, and retain top-tier engineering talent across backend, frontend, QA, DevOps, and data science functions.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement across global, cross-functional teams.
- Provide mentorship and career growth paths for senior engineering leaders and architects.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, UX, Customer Success, and Commercial teams to ensure alignment from roadmap to release.
- Act as a key technical stakeholder in customer engagements, sales opportunities, and strategic planning efforts.

Requirements
- Bachelor\’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in technical leadership roles.
- Proven success delivering enterprise-grade, cloud-based software platforms in a SaaS model.
- Deep understanding of the upstream asset lifecycle and core economic/reserves concepts (e.g., decline curves, type curves, NPV, IRR, categories of reserves).
- Strong knowledge of Agile development, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps culture, and containerized application deployment (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience integrating AI/ML, advanced analytics, or data science into engineering solutions.
- Proven experience with transformative application modernization at enterprise scale.
- Experience leading globally distributed teams across multiple cultures and timezones.
- Ability to balance maintenance and “run the business” activities with innovation and “change the business” initiatives.
- Experience with scaling early MVP / prototypes to production to scale.
- Experience with modernization and cloud efforts.
- Previous experience owning a P&L and budget.
Preferred Skills
- Experience directly supporting oil and gas planning, petroleum economics, or reserves workflows
- Background in data-driven forecasting, scenario modeling, or portfolio optimization using AI/ML.
- Background Check: The successful candidate will need to successfully complete the following clearances: Criminal History Check, Education Verification, Employment Verification, Driver’s License Verification and passport/ID validation.
