Worked with young people before and want meaningful classroom experience? We’re supporting a highly improving secondary school in Gosport to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to join their SEND team, starting as soon as possible. This is a 4 day per week position (not Wednesdays), offered on a 12-week temp-to-perm basis. The role involves supporting a student with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) on a 1:1 basis. If you’re considering teacher training, coming from a sports coaching or youth work background, or looking to build a long-term career in education, this role offers valuable, hands-on experience in a secondary school setting. The school is looking for someone who can start immediately or within one week. To be considered, you must hold an active enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service. What you’ll gain through Quokka Education Alongside your placement, you’ll receive: * Guidance and regular check-ins * Support preparing for future teacher training applications * Experience within a structured and supportive secondary school * The opportunity to secure a permanent contract after 12 weeks We support candidates who are serious about building a long-term career in education. What you’ll be doing * Acting as the designated keyworker for a student with an EHCP * Providing consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day * Supporting learning across the curriculum * Assisting with emotional regulation and engagement * Working closely with teachers, SEND staff and pastoral teams You’ll play a key role in providing structure and consistency to help the student grow in confidence and independence. Who this role suits Previous experience in a secondary school is desirable but not essential. We would particularly welcome applications from: * Graduates considering teacher training * Aspiring teachers wanting classroom experience * Sports coaches or youth workers * Calm, resilient individuals motivated to support young people You’ll need GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team. Specialist SEND qualifications aren’t essential. What matters most is reliability, patience and a genuine commitment to supporting young people.
