About the Team: The Mobile Growth and Monetization team is a new team based in London responsible for powering Quizlet’s mobile growth. This is a broad charter and covers everything from our global expansion to notifications and from account management to ads and subscription management. The team works closely with the rest of our mobile organization, backend services teams, and cross-platform product and marketing teams to enable more people in more places to study on the Quizlet app.
About the Role: We’re looking for a Staff Engineer to provide technical leadership for our Mobile Growth and Monetization team. You will work in and provide technical leadership for a team of engineers working on our iOS and Android apps. You will work closely with and influence your peers in the mobile engineering and product management organizations to quickly and iteratively test new ideas and deliver the ones that work at scale. You’ll always be thinking about the user’s experience and advocate for mobile users with the rest of the company focusing on growth initiatives. We’re happy to share that this is an onsite position in our London office. To help foster team collaboration, we require that employees be in the office at a minimum of three days a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and as needed by your manager or the company. We believe that this working environment facilitates increased work efficiency, team partnership, and supports growth as an employee and organization.
In this role, you will:
- Design, build, and maintain high quality software supporting growth and monetization
- Collaborate closely with product and other cross-functional partners to define requirements and deliver solutions
- Develop subject matter expertise in our existing systems and proactively suggest improvements and new ideas based on industry best practices
- Actively provide technical mentorship and guidance to other team members
- Partner effectively with dependent and partner engineering teams, influencing their decisions and designs as appropriate
- Drive incident investigations, post mortems, and retrospectives and effectively advocate for long-term improvements to systems and processes
What you bring to the table:
- Multiple years of experience in mobile software development
- Proven track record of technical leadership and coaching mobile (iOS / Android) development teams
- Strong problem solving and debugging skills on mobile software products
- Expert level skills in either iOS or Android development and some level of comfort with the other
- Eagerness to learn, grow, and take on new challenges
- Track record of approaching problems from a system level perspective (e.g. thinking about how backend, frontend, data, etc work together as a whole)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across a range of audiences
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience with native Android, native iOS, and cross platform mobile development approaches, including evaluating tradeoffs and leading a team to make the right choices to align to long term goals
- Track record of identifying and removing team roadblocks before they block the team
- Experience providing technical leadership across multiple teams working on diverse objectives
- Experience with subscription management and/or advertising on both Android and iOS
