Our client is a prestigious international law firm with one of the most widely recognised Private Client practices in the UK. They are seeking an Associate at 5β7 PQE to join the UK Private Client group in their Cheltenham office.
This is City-quality work based in the beautiful Cotswolds. The office of just over 100 people has a strong sense of community, while the firm's wider UK and international network means the work and clients you'll be exposed to are limitless. Core to the team's client base are investors and entrepreneurs, landed estates and heritage property, and professionals and senior executives. Some matters carry an international element, though international experience is not essential.
Working with a range of Partners, the Associate will advise UK clients on succession and tax planning, where the estates in question are often complex and of high value, developing broad experience alongside a more specialised expertise.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide practical and commercial legal advice to clients in a clear and succinct manner.
- Manage a substantial and varied workload efficiently and cost effectively, with supervision appropriate to your level of expertise.
- Draft more complex documents with minimum instruction and supervision, making use of appropriate precedents.
- Delegate, co-ordinate and supervise the work of more junior members of the team where appropriate.
- Actively participate in client marketing opportunities such as seminars, presentations and pitches, identifying and following through on client opportunities.
- Contribute to group knowledge and know-how initiatives.
- Comply with all relevant regulatory obligations, including the SRA Standards and Regulations.
Person Specification
- Qualified Solicitor or CILEX qualified, ideally with 5β7 years' PQE .
- Excellent knowledge of the law and practice in relation to the administration of estates.
- A thorough understanding of inheritance tax and trusts.
- A STEP qualification would be an advantage but is not essential.
- A hands-on approach to managing your own files and a broad caseload, capable of running a significant number of matters simultaneously.
- Excellent team working skills, with the ability to mentor and guide less experienced colleagues.
- Confident in both verbal and written communication with a diverse range of clients, with a flexible approach and willingness to go the extra mile.
