Office-Based Role

The Firm

Our client is a well-established independent accountancy practice with over 50 years of history, supporting a diverse portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients across the UK and internationally. The firm has built a strong reputation for providing tailored accountancy, tax and business advisory services, with a focus on long-term client relationships and delivering practical commercial advice. The business operates from offices in South London and Central London and employs a close-knit team of accounting professionals supported by an overseas back-office function. Due to continued growth and expansion of the client portfolio, the firm is seeking an Accounts Senior to join its Croydon office.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious practice professional looking to broaden their exposure across accounts, tax and client management within a supportive environment. The role offers genuine progression opportunities and exposure to a varied portfolio of clients across multiple sectors. The successful candidate will manage their own portfolio of clients, prepare accounts and tax computations, supervise junior team members and work closely with managers and partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of owner-managed businesses and SME clients
  • Preparing statutory accounts for manager and partner review
  • Preparing corporation tax computations and returns
  • Assisting with personal tax returns
  • Reviewing work completed by junior team members
  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients and responding to queries
  • Liaising directly with business owners and stakeholders
  • Supporting audit assignments through review and completion procedures
  • Working closely with the firm's offshore support team
  • Identifying opportunities to provide additional services and support to clients
  • Ensuring work is delivered accurately and within deadlines

Portfolio Information

Portfolio value: Approximately £200,000

Client sectors include: Medical practices, Construction, Professional services, Property, SMEs and owner-managed businesses

Typical turnover range: Small to medium-sized businesses

Role Split

Accounts: 70%, Tax: 20%, Audit: 10%

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • ACCA or ACA qualified, finalist or strong part-qualified candidate
  • Previous experience within a UK accountancy practice
  • Strong accounts preparation experience
  • Experience preparing corporation tax computations
  • Exposure to personal tax work
  • Experience managing client relationships
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines

Desirable

  • Experience reviewing junior staff work
  • Exposure to audit assignments
  • Experience using cloud accounting software
  • Interest in developing broader tax and advisory knowledge
