QDSL (Quintessential Design Services Limited) is an engineering and technology consultancy, supporting client projects in the field of Engineering Innovations, Research & Development and IT. We offer engineering support in Automotive, Aerospace, Energy and IT.
This role sits within the Propulsion BEV Domain supporting vehicle testing activity across all our new Battery Electric Vehicle Platforms. It focuses on supporting the continual running of our prototype vehicle test fleet at a really exciting time in the development process. The team will carry out first level analysis on powertrain issues raised by vehicle owners for the powertrain and charging systems and ensure that the right teams are engaged in resolving issues and all learning is captured. The expectation for this role is to take ownership of powertrain issue resolution for the platform and collaborate closely with peers for powertrain-related issues.
Responsibilities
- Carry out first level of analysis on issues raised by vehicle owners through log taking.
- Ensure quality data is collected with a clear problem description.
- Engage relevant teams in problem solving.
- Support vehicle updates and prove out of issue resolution (e.g. flashing of software).
- Lead triage of powertrain & charging system issues identified on prototype vehicles.
- Ensure quality data is captured and problem definition described and logged.
- Lead issue resolution, where appropriate, to keep fleet running.
- Assist in identifying appropriate ERA, ICA & PCA’s.
- Liaise with testing teams to replicate issues on test rigs / vehicles.
- Capture lessons learnt and ensure updates enacted on, as appropriate, across the vehicle fleet.
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, developing positive relationships and ensuring that information is shared from and to the domain as appropriate.
- Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required
Essential
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Understanding of the architecture and function of a BEV propulsion system.
- Technical expertise and experience of testing a high voltage component or system.
- Data analysis and reporting of test data (using INCA or equivalent).
- Natural problem solver with a structured approach to problem solving in a technical environment.
- The ability to validate, prepare and read engineering documents.
- To be inquisitive – The ability to evaluate and appropriately challenge existing ideas, processes and ways of working to optimise how we work as a team.
- A full UK driving license.
- The ability to travel freely between JLR’s engineering sites and test partners (with opportunity for overseas travel).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills.
