Description
The Tool Room Technician will be responsible for general repair, maintenance, and improvement to tooling dies, jigs, fixtures, and fitting for mould tools. Supporting with the strip down of moulds including insert changes and repairs using manual and sometimes precision equipment, tasks will include internal transportation of moulds, the use of the over-head crane, hot runner, and hydraulic repairs with the use of hand tools using mechanical knowledge and understanding of injection and rotational moulding.
The Tool Room Technician will assist with Tool Room projects responding to the changing needs of the department, as required. Working alongside other experts, the Tool Room Technician will identify waste, non-value adding activities and variation in new and existing processes to identify opportunities to improve quality, safety and reduce costs.
Requirements
- Evaluate condition and determine improvements needed in existing moulds, providing feedback to the Tool Room/Mould Shop team on repairs status and progress.
- Disassemble, clean and re-assemble injection moulds
- Conduct general tooling repairs and maintenance, following preventive maintenance where relevant
- Assist with major maintenance, tool refurbishments and modification of ancillary parts
- Use expertise to undertake advanced lifting and slinging operations
- Conduct mould trouble shooting as needed observing tool condition while cleaning and converting
- Test and confirm electrical and hydraulic/ pneumatic operation of tools before return to production
- Be familiar with hot runner manifolds
- Use creativity: collaborate with other specialists, to ensure quick diagnosis of routine problems using effective troubleshooting
