Are you an experienced Mobile Technician looking for your next challenge? We currently have a fantastic opportunity to work within our Northampton area network on a permanent basis. The Mobile Technician is responsible for supporting SFS workshops and customers, ensuring adherence to vehicle maintenance and compliance regulations. In this role, you should be highly flexible, maintain a progressive level of customer focus, and ensure all paperwork and fleet systems are completed timely and accurately. Providing high-quality field support, fleet checks, and emergency breakdown cover is at the frontier of the role.
The Mobile Technician will work very closely with all facets of the organisation including:
- The Head of Engineering
- Workshop Controllers & Technicians
- Customer Network Operators & External Providers
What candidate are we looking for?
- A minimum of 5 years’ technical experience on municipal vehicles (e.g., refuse, sweepers, etc.), preferably within a workshop environment
- Recognised time served on an apprenticeship scheme with supporting technical qualifications
- Full clean HGV driving license Category C (minimum)
- Proven technical experience on vehicle electrical systems (12 and 24 volts), hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Strong health and safety awareness with a solid understanding of rules and workshop regulations
- Ability to adapt to and manage a varied workload, with the independence to work effectively on your own initiative
- Excellent communication and listening skills with a commitment to treating customers fairly and providing clear, jargon-free information
- A collaborative mindset, acting with integrity, and ensuring proper regulatory conduct rules are met
The following additional skills would be an advantage:
- High attention to detail with strong multitasking and organizational skills to prioritize deadlines
- Knowledge of the Fleetwave fleet management system
- Basic IT literacy with knowledge of MS Office systems
- Completed VOSA vehicle inspection course or specific municipal vehicle manufacturing training
- Previous people management or supervisory experience
What will be your duties?
- Carrying out ministry inspections, LOLERs, MOTs, body inspections, and routine vehicle servicing to comply with legal requirements and customer O' licenses
- Completing daily defect clinics on customer sites and assisting with pre-delivery and specification approval inspections for new fleet vehicles
- Attending vehicle breakdowns both during and outside of normal working hours
- Utilising the fleet management system (Fleetwave) to log maintenance, progress, and repair data accurately
- Providing essential cover for technicians and workshop controllers across the workshop network during training, holidays, or sickness
- Conducting condition inspections on external fleets, auditing operator compliance, and validating the quality of third-party maintenance providers
- Ensuring that all tooling and workshop equipment remains in safe working condition, reporting any operational failures immediately
- Enforcing strict quality control so that no vehicle is returned to a customer unless it is completely safe for operational use
- Creating and maintaining highly professional working relationships with SFS staff
