Description Why join Marshall Land Systems in this role?

The HR Advisor will provide proactive, hands‑on HR support to the Cambridge site, working closely with managers, employees and the wider UK HR team to deliver an effective and responsive HR service.

Reporting to the Head of HR, the role will provide day‑to‑day HR advice and guidance across the employee lifecycle, with a particular focus on employee relations, employee consultations, absence and sickness management, and supporting managers through organisational change.

The role will be highly visible and site‑based, building strong relationships with colleagues across the business and ensuring that HR support is accessible, practical and aligned with business needs.

The HR Advisor will also support the wider UK HR team on HR initiatives, projects and continuous improvement activity.

This role will be 3 days a week and we are looking for someone to be based onsite in Cambridge, the FTE salary for the role is £40,000 - £45,000.

Your responsibilities in this role include

  • Provide day‑to‑day HR advice and guidance to managers and employees on a broad range of employee relations matters, ensuring advice is consistent, pragmatic and aligned with company policies and employment legislation
  • Support managers with employee relations processes, including investigations, disciplinary and grievance matters, performance management and other complex people issues
  • Support employee consultation processes, including consultations relating to organisational change, restructuring, changes to terms and conditions and other business‑led change initiatives
  • Work closely with managers and the HR team to ensure consultations are planned, well communicated and handled fairly and consistently
  • Coach and support managers in having effective and sometimes challenging conversations with employees
  • Identify potential employee relations risks and elevate complex or sensitive matters to the Head of HR as appropriate
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate documentation throughout employee relations and consultation processes
  • Absence & Sickness Management
  • Provide proactive support and guidance to managers in managing short- and long‑term sickness absence
  • Support managers with effective absence management processes, ensuring appropriate interventions are undertaken in a timely and consistent manner
  • Work with managers and relevant internal or external partners to support employees returning to work and, where appropriate, facilitate reasonable adjustments and phased returns
  • Monitor absence data and identify trends, risks and areas requiring intervention
  • Support the implementation of initiatives aimed at improving attendance, employee wellbeing and overall absence management
  • Ensure absence cases are appropriately documented and managed in line with company policy and employment legislation
  • HR Operations & Employee Lifecycle
  • Support key employee lifecycle processes including onboarding, changes to employment, promotions, transfers and exits
  • Support recruitment and onboarding activity where required, working with hiring managers and the wider Resourcing team
  • Support performance management processes, including performance reviews, development plans and capability processes
  • Assist with benefits administration and other HR operational activities
  • Support the review and implementation of HR policies and processes, ensuring they remain relevant and aligned with current legislation and business requirements
  • Change & HR Projects
  • Support the Head of HR and wider UK HR team with organisational change and people‑related projects
  • Contribute to initiatives supporting organisational effectiveness, employee engagement, capability and culture
  • Provide hands‑on HR support during periods of organisational change and transformation
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve the employee and manager experience and HR operational efficiency
  • Use HR data and insights to identify opportunities for improvement and support evidence‑based decision making
  • Previous experience working in an HR Advisor or similar generalist HR role, providing on support to managers and employees
  • Strong experience in employee relations, including investigations, disciplinary and grievance processes and performance/capability matters
  • Demonstrable experience supporting employee consultation processes, ideally within an organisation experiencing change, restructuring or transformation
  • Strong practical experience of absence and sickness management, including supporting long‑term absence cases and return‑to‑work processes
  • Experience coaching and advising managers through challenging people situations
  • Experience working within a fast‑paced HR environment and managing a varied workload
  • Experience supporting organisational change and/or HR projects
  • Experience using HR systems and maintaining accurate employee records
  • Experience working with HR data and using information to identify trends and inform priorities
  • Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, industrial, logistics or similarly operational environment would be advantageous
  • Technical Skills and Experience
  • CIPD Level 3 or equivalent HR experience is desirable
  • Sound knowledge of UK employment legislation and its practical application within the workplace
  • Strong understanding of employee relations, consultation and absence management processes
  • Good understanding of HR policies, procedures and best practice
  • Confident using HR systems and Microsoft Office/365 applications
  • Ability to interpret HR data and use insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise a varied workload and manage multiple cases and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with employees and managers at all levels
  • Good judgement and the ability to assess risk, identify appropriate solutions and know when to elevate

Additional local needs

  • This is a fully onsite role based at the Cambridge site and requires a regular, visible HR presence on site
  • The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check
  • Occasional travel may be required to support wider UK HR activities, meetings or projects
