Are you an experienced HGV Driver looking for your next challenge? We currently have a fantastic opportunity to work within our Calne depot on a permanent basis. The HGV Driver / Depot Operative is responsible for ensuring our specialist assets, yard, and workshop areas are maintained to the highest standards, alongside assisting with the movement and delivery of vehicles. In this role, you should be efficient, detail‑oriented, and able to work effectively to support our front‑line team. High standards of work and a commitment to quality are at the forefront of the role.

The HGV Driver / Depot Operative will work very closely with all facets of the organisation including:

  • The Depot Manager
  • Senior Monitoring Staff

What candidate are we looking for?

  • The HGV Driver / Depot Operative will have a background from within a similar driving or fleet support role, with proven experience handling large vehicles.
  • Class 2 HGV Driving License (Essential)
  • Experience working in a commercial vehicle workshop environment
  • Municipal vehicle or equipment operation experience is preferable
  • Basic mechanical knowledge is an advantage
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including seeking and acting on performance feedback
  • An understanding of confidentiality when handling business information and advice
  • Strong time management with the ability to work within allotted timescales
  • A safety‑first mindset with a commitment to maintaining PPE and following health & safety guidelines
  • Experience preparing vehicles to a standard fit for inspection, MOT, or hire purposes (additional advantage)
  • Prior experience managing and reporting defects for wash bay equipment and company tooling (additional advantage)
  • Knowledge of specialist commercial vehicle assets (additional advantage)

What will be your duties?

  • Responsible for carrying out thorough vehicle washes on chassis and bodies to a standard fit for inspection, MOT, or hire.
  • Valeting cab interiors and ensuring all washing and cleaning materials are used efficiently to reduce waste.
  • Performing general labouring duties within the workshop and engineering areas to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Keeping the yard, car park, and wash bay areas clean and tidy, reporting any equipment misuse or damage.
  • Assisting with the collection and delivery of parts and vehicles as required by the business.
  • Completing all job cards and relevant paperwork correctly and legibly.
  • Ensuring all completed work meets the standards required to pass random quality checks monitored by senior members of staff.
  • Utilizing specialist training and requesting support to aid your personal development.
  • Collaborating with the front‑line team to maximise productivity and ensure turnaround times are met efficiently.
