We are looking for an experienced HGV Technician to work at our Calne depot on a permanent basis.
The role involves the service and repair of a wide variety of vehicles, prioritising fleet uptime and safety.
Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a commitment to quality are essential.
End user support and customer centricity are at the forefront of the role.
The HGV Technician will work very closely with all facets of the organisation, including the Depot Manager and the Front‑Line Support Function.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with workshop management to understand operational requirements.
- Carry out routine servicing, inspection, maintenance and electrical or mechanical repair on a wide variety of vehicles.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical faults efficiently.
- Perform tacho calibrations, repairs and wheel alignment checks to required standards.
- Ensure all service and repair work complies with VOSA standards and health and safety guidelines.
- Maintain workshop cleanliness and ensure company tooling and equipment are kept to the required standards.
- Complete all job cards, inspection sheets and relevant maintenance paperwork correctly and legibly.
- Participate in training and development programmes provided to support our specialist assets.
- Work collaboratively with the workshop team to maximise productivity and ensure turnaround times are met.
Qualifications and Experience
- Background in a similar HGV technical role with proven experience in vehicle service, maintenance and repairs.
- Technical qualification – NVQ Level 3 or City and Guilds equivalent.
- Experience handling tacho calibrations, repairs and wheel alignment.
- Class 2 driving licence preferred.
- Strong awareness and understanding of health and safety practices within a workshop environment.
- Excellent customer service skills and a professional approach.
- Team player with ability to work independently.
- Previous exposure to, or experience in, the waste/recycling industry would be an advantage but not essential.
- Willingness to undertake specialist training to develop existing skills.
- Additional Skills (Advantage)
- Experience working with municipal and specialist fleet vehicles.
- Class 1 driving licence.
- Knowledge of proactive fleet maintenance protocols to reduce vehicle off‑road time.
