With a Gym to rival any in the South East, including a comprehensive range of Cardiovascular, Free & Fixed Weight equipment and an exceptional Functional Training area, we are able to cater for all, whether they are beginners or competitive athletes. We are looking for a real people person, someone who is enthusiastic and has the ability to pass that on to others, someone who can motivate and support our customers. You will be able to relate to a wide range of people, provide guidance and supervision to all whether they be serious gym-goers or novices, and help promote the real purpose of our business. Hours will include early, late and weekend shifts.
You will be responsible for:
- Inducting new members
- Providing ongoing support for members
- Maintaining the cleanliness and security of the gym
Requirements:
- Candidates should hold a valid Level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification.
General Description of Duties:
- To assist the Health & Fitness Manager in the day-to-day operations of the Gym & Spa and the services it provides, acting in a front of house capacity to ensure the highest standards of service delivery to the customer.
Specific Duties:
- To facilitate and supervise the operational activities of the Leisure Centre Gym and Spa as appropriate to ensure the safety of users at all times.
- To deal effectively with membership enquiries in the absence of Membership advisors, providing relevant information to prospective customers and undertaking tours of the Gym & Spa.
- To undertake fitness testing, programme design and inductions in compliance with the safety guidelines for exercise prescription.
- To provide ongoing instructional services to customers in order to ensure safe and effective use of the Gym.
- To provide an exceptional level of customer service by ensuring the completion of the Member Journey and seamless use of the mywellness software.
- To maintain high standards of cleanliness and carry out cleaning tasks in the Gym and Spa and to ensure the associated equipment is in safe working order.
- To carry out minor preventative maintenance duties as instructed and to ensure the timely reporting of defects to the equipment supplier.
- To assist in the upkeep of security for the Gym and Spa and its immediate surroundings.
- To ensure accurate completion of records and checks as required.
- To provide First Aid assistance as necessary to promote recovery and ensure accurate completion of accident and incident report forms as required.
- To assist in the provision, promotion and development of services provided by the Centre and connected sites, to meet the customer needs.
- To assist the Health & Fitness Manager in the implementation of all aspects of Health and Safety in accordance with all relevant legislation, ensuring completion of all relevant records and checks.
- To maintain and develop effective communications and positive working relationships at Centre.
- To demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behavioural, physical, social and welfare needs.
- To carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope, levels and purpose of this job description.

Person Specification:
- Qualifications: REPS level 2, First Aid Qualification
- Knowledge & Experience: Previous experience working as a fitness instructor, practical and theoretical knowledge of sports and fitness, ability to design training programs, ability to teach sports and fitness activities, knowledge of fitness and training equipment, ability to assess a client’s level of physical fitness and potential, knowledge of first aid methods, energy, enthusiasm and dynamism, strong interpersonal skills, excellent physical fitness.
- Skills: Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, must be able to deliver a high level of customer care, have excellent time keeping and organisational skills.
- Attributes: To be highly motivated and enthusiastic, confident and friendly manner, to be of smart and presentable appearance, self-motivated and target driven, ability to work on own initiative, and in support of colleagues working in a team.
- IT Skills: Knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology efficiently.
- Other: Enhanced DBS, to be able to work evenings and weekends, flexibility to work at other locations as required, keen interest in the leisure industry, clean driving licence, own transport and appropriate vehicle insurance cover to enable travel to and between sites as required.
