As our Packaging Project Technologist, you’ll join our New Product Development team at G&J Distillers in Warrington, leading packaging projects from concept through to implementation across our growing portfolio. Reporting to the Head of NPD, you’ll act as the technical packaging lead, developing packaging solutions that balance customer requirements, manufacturing capability, quality standards, operational practicality, and commercial performance.

This highly collaborative role involves working across suppliers, operations, manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams to bring packaging innovation to life while ensuring launch readiness and on‑time delivery.

Your impact will include:

  • Packaging project leadership: Lead packaging development projects from initial brief through to launch. Establish project plans, milestones, and governance requirements. Drive packaging workstreams and maintain momentum across multiple projects. Ensure delivery against agreed quality, timeline, and commercial objectives.
  • Technical packaging development: Develop and qualify packaging solutions aligned to customer and business requirements. Assess technical feasibility, material suitability, and manufacturing readiness. Support trials and implementation into production environments. Ensure packaging solutions deliver consistent performance at launch.
  • Supplier & stakeholder collaboration: Serve as the primary point of contact for packaging suppliers. Build strong cross‑functional relationships to accelerate delivery and reduce risk. Coordinate decisions and maintain alignment across internal stakeholders.
  • Packaging governance & continuous improvement: Develop and maintain packaging specifications and approval processes. Ensure compliance with quality, regulatory, and operational standards. Identify opportunities to improve packaging performance, efficiency, and time‑to‑market. Support cost optimisation and value improvement initiatives.

  • Understanding of packaging materials, specifications, and qualification processes.
  • Experience supporting production trials and implementation activities.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations and packaging constraints.
  • Supplier management and stakeholder engagement experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability.
  • Commercial awareness and confidence, balancing technical decisions with business outcomes.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and adaptable approach.
  • Retail and/or B2B customer exposure is advantageous.
