This is an 8-week summer internship sitting within the Chief Operating Office (COO) as part of the AI Centre of Excellence (AI COE), a team dedicated to driving innovation and best practices in AI and Data Science across the organisation.
As an Applied AI Intern, you will:
- Build and Experiment: Take part in the full lifecycle of model development from design and implementation to testing and deployment and delivering robust, high-quality solutions.
- Collaborate Globally: Work within a diverse, cross-functional team and gain exposure to experts across different regions and disciplines.
- Innovate and Learn: Curiosity is at the heart of this role. You'll have the freedom to explore new ideas, experiment with emerging technologies, and continuously learn. Your ability to ask questions, seek knowledge, and adapt will be key to solving real-world challenges.
- Grow with Mentorship: Receive guidance from experienced scientists and engineers, helping you sharpen your technical skills and broaden your understanding of cutting-edge AI/ML practices.
- Shape the Future: Your contributions will have real impact, helping to advance solutions that address complex problems and improve user experiences.
Upon successful completion of the programme, you may be offered a position on the AI 2-year graduate programme. This role is offering a salary of up to £30,000 (pro-rated to the duration of the internship).
Consumer Duty
Whilst this isn’t a directly customer facing role, the duties you will perform will contribute to the overall positive outcomes for our customers by ensuring that the customer is at the heart of the AI strategy, roadmap and plans created.
About You
Qualifications
- Final year or recently completed a MSc / PhD program in a relevant field such as AI, Data Science, Machine Learning, NLP, or related disciplines.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning fundamentals, and AI agents.
- Hands-on experience designing and evaluating experiments in ML or LLM contexts.
- Familiarity with version control and collaborative coding platforms (e.g., GitHub).
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Comfort working with unstructured data and applying data cleaning and pre-processing techniques.
Skills
- Proficient in programming in Python.
- Strong Research Skills: Ability to apply rigorous scientific methods to investigate problems, design experiments, and interpret results.
- Conducting literature reviews to understand state-of-the-art techniques.
- Translating research insights into practical solutions for real-world applications.
- A passion for learning and a curious mindset, always eager to explore new concepts and technologies.
- Good communication skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
