The Data Model and Requirements Manager plays a critical role in shaping Quilter's enterprise data landscape. Sitting within the Chief Data Office (CDO) and reporting to the Head of Data Platform, this role ensures that business requirements are accurately captured, translated into robust data models, and governed effectively across the organisation. You will be responsible for defining modelling standards, ensuring data consistency across domains, and partnering closely with business stakeholders, product owners, architects, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality, well-designed data assets that support actionable insights and strategic decision-making.
The key accountabilities for the role are as follows:
- Team Management & Growth: Lead a small team of Business Data Analysts / Data Modelers through coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance. Support individual career development and performance feedback, creating growth opportunities for your team. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance team culture.
- Requirements Management: Lead the capture, refinement, and documentation of detailed business and technical requirements for data initiatives. Act as the primary liaison between business SMEs and technical delivery teams, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and traceability of requirements. Translate complex business processes into structured requirements, process maps, user stories, and acceptance criteria. Maintain a prioritised backlog aligned to strategic objectives and data platform capabilities.
- Data Modelling Leadership: Own the enterprise logical and conceptual data models for assigned domains, ensuring they align with Quilter's reference architectures. Define, evolve, and enforce data modelling standards (e.g., Kimball, Data Vault, canonical models). Review engineering and analytics deliverables to ensure alignment to approved models. Ensure data is structured to support analytics, reporting, operational processes, and regulatory needs. Maintain metadata, lineage, and model documentation within Quilter's data catalogue and governance tools.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineers, analysts, architects, and product managers to ensure technical delivery aligns with business intent. Work closely with governance teams to embed data quality rules, ownership structures, and compliance standards into models and requirements. Facilitate workshops to drive stakeholder understanding of data requirements, domain boundaries, and business rules. Influence project scoping, sequencing, and planning from a data requirements perspective.
- Operational & Governance Excellence: Ensure models and requirements adhere to data governance, privacy, and regulatory expectations (e.g., GDPR, retention rules). Define and maintain glossaries, data definitions, and business rules across domains. Support incident analysis where data quality, lineage, or model interpretation is a factor. Promote consistent modelling patterns to reduce duplication and improve data reuse across Quilter.
About You
- Qualifications: Degree in a technical discipline (e.g. computer science, engineering, maths, physics) or evidence of equivalent practical experience.
- Knowledge & Experience: Significant experience in data modelling, including conceptual, logical, and physical models. Experience with Kimball, Data Vault, canonical modelling, and enterprise data modelling techniques. Strong background in requirements gathering across complex technical and business environments. Familiarity with Azure data ecosystem, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, and modern data platforms. Understanding of metadata management, cataloguing, lineage, and access governance. Experience supporting multiple squads or projects simultaneously with structured modelling and requirements practices. Knowledge of regulatory expectations such as GDPR, retention, and data governance controls. Ability to interpret data designs, schemas, and engineering documentation.
- Skills: Skilled in translating business needs into precise, structured, and well-documented requirements. Strong communication skills - able to simplify complex concepts for non-technical stakeholders. Proficient in modelling tools (e.g., Erwin, PowerDesigner, Lucidchart, Synapse/Fabric modelling tools). High attention to detail, analytical rigour, and structured problem-solving. Comfortable challenging assumptions and guiding stakeholders to well-designed solutions. Able to influence without authority and drive alignment across technical and business teams.
