Senior Software Engineer / Development Team Lead (.NET) in Southampton

You are a hands-on engineer who takes ownership of the development and delivery for a product or service area, acting as a role model for engineering excellence, and providing leadership and guidance to other engineers and software developers. The role also has a focus on technical leadership, delivery ownership, and promoting and raising standards within the team.

• Take ownership of the design, development, and delivery of high-quality .NET solutions across the full software development lifecycle.
• Lead technical decision making within the team, ensuring alignment with Quilter standards and architectural direction in close collaboration with the Quilter Architecture team.
• Design and build scalable, resilient, and secure RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code, setting the quality bar for the team.
• Perform detailed code reviews and support complex problem solving.

• Act as a senior technical role model, supporting and mentoring less experienced developers.
• Provide day‐to‐day technical guidance and leadership within the development team.
• Encourage strong engineering practices, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Support onboarding of new engineers and knowledge sharing within the team.

• Champion clean code, automated testing, and CI/CD good practices.
• Embed modern DevSecOps practices, including pipeline automation and quality gates.
• Ensure solutions meet security, resilience, and regulatory expectations appropriate to a financial services environment.
• Contribute to improving development standards, patterns, and tooling across the engineering community.
• Leverage AI to drive productivity and quality improvements in both your own work and in the work of the team.

• Work in partnership with Product Owners to help shape and refine technical solutions that support business outcomes.
• Collaborate with Architects to ensure solutions align with target architecture and longer‐term strategy.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‐technical stakeholders.

You are a highly capable senior engineer with strong technical depth and the confidence to lead at a team level through influence and expertise.

• Significant experience developing enterprise‐grade solutions using C# / .NET / .NET Core.
• Strong experience designing and delivering RESTful APIs and distributed backend services.
• Experience building and supporting Azure‐hosted workloads.
• Proven use of CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps) and automated testing techniques.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, patterns, and testability.
• Experience integrating backend services with React, Next.js, or Ionic front‐end applications.
• Experience working in Agile / Scrum delivery environments.
• Experience working with AI tools, (e.g. GitHub co-pilot, Cowork, etc).
