Maintenance Technician
As QuidelOrtho continues to grow, we are seeking to appoint a Maintenance Technician to join our Engineering Maintenance team in Pencoed on a permanent basis. This role will work on a 24/7 shift pattern.
About QuidelOrtho, Pencoed
QuidelOrtho has been manufacturing products in South Wales for over 40 years. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, based in Pencoed, employs over 600 people who are involved in the manufacture and supply of clinical laboratory and immunohematology products to sites across the globe. Our Pencoed team manufacture a large menu of immunohematology products used in transfusion medicine; in addition to a large menu of immunoassay products encompassing a range of disease categories. On site we have a range of functions operating globally & locally. All our employees are working towards one common goal, to help save and improve lives through diagnostics.
Your New Role
As a Maintenance Technician at QuidelOrtho, you will focus on maximizing the availability and performance of process equipment through proactive maintenance and continuous improvement at the Pencoed manufacturing site. You will be responsible for maintaining equipment records in the SAP database, ensuring all interventions and root cause analyses are thoroughly documented to prevent recurring issues. The position requires analysing production data and collaborating with departmental heads to identify and implement improvement opportunities, ultimately helping the value stream achieve its operational targets. You will support various initiatives, including HSE and 5S, and provide overtime support as needed to resolve equipment issues while adhering to all relevant compliance regulations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Maximising Process Equipment Availability and Performance
- Maintain equipment compliance via the equipment management database, SAP. Ensure all equipment reporting fields are rigorously followed and updated with concise, detailed information. All equipment breakdown interventions and recoveries are captured and updated to SAP. Root cause must be established following the 4 questions of RCI.
- Continuous improvement of routine maintenance procedures and service contract activities.
- Accountability & Ownership of the designated value stream process equipment in order to identify improvement opportunities.
- Analysing production data to identify and eliminate recurring issues to enable the value stream to achieve operational targets.
- Support departmental heads in engineering workshop (including tool management), HSE & 5’s improvement initiatives.
- Provide reasonable overtime support to effectively resolve both operational and non-operational equipment issues.
- Ensuring all activities comply with local, national, international and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) compliance.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
- Time served apprenticeship or level 3 Diploma in an engineering discipline with maintenance experience
- Structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Electrical or Mechanical biased skillset.
- Previous experience with CMMS.
- Proven track record of process equipment maintenance, and installation within a regulated environment.
- Documentation / Technical report writing skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools for communication and reporting.
- Ability to work cross functionally with operations to minimize downtime, increase performance and availability of production equipment through TPM, prioritisation and training.
- Ability to provide support to process engineering team when needed.
- Ability to provide support to projects when needed.
- Flexibility to work overtime.
- Shift: The ability to work a 24/7 shift pattern (12-hour shifts, which include days, nights & weekend work).
- Work environment: Production area environment majority of the time with instances to respond to cold storage and external environments when needed.
