Torbay Council is recruiting a skilled and motivated MASH Social Worker to join our Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) within Children's Services. Working at the front door of children's social care, you will play a vital role in safeguarding children by screening, analysing, and responding to contacts and referrals. You'll work alongside partner agencies including police, health, education, and early help to make timely, informed decisions that ensure children receive the right help at the right time.
Key Responsibilities
- Screen and analyse contacts and referrals to identify risk, need, and protective factors
- Undertake threshold decision‐making in line with statutory guidance and local procedures
- Apply professional judgement to determine outcomes, including Early Help, assessment, or statutory intervention
- Complete high‐quality MASH checks and information sharing with partner agencies
- Make defensible decisions that prioritise child safety and are clearly evidenced in case records
- Progress Section 47 enquiries where required
- Contribute to strategy discussions and multi‐agency decision‐making
- Ensure timely and accurate recording in line with statutory timescales
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Degree or recognised qualification in Social Work (BA / MA / DipSW)
- Registered with Social Work England
- Experience in statutory children's social work
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, thresholds, and Working Together to Safeguard Children
- Excellent analytical, decision‐making, and risk assessment skills
- Ability to work at pace in a high‐volume, fast‐moving environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desirable:
- Previous experience working in a MASH or front‐door service
- Experience of multi‐agency safeguarding environments
- Knowledge of local authority thresholds and early help pathways
