One Identity's OneLogin team is seeking Senior Software Engineers who operate with high ownership, strong technical judgment, and a bias for action. These roles are designed for engineers who identify and solve problems proactively — not just execute assigned work. Senior Engineers at OneLogin are expected to operate as T-shaped engineers: deep in a primary domain while remaining capable across the stack (backend, APIs, cloud, and operations). You will play a key role in maintaining product velocity, improving system reliability, and reducing operational burden. This is a hands-on role that includes on-call responsibilities and requires a strong commitment to modern engineering practices, including AI-augmented development. We are looking for engineers who take full ownership — design, build, test, deploy, and operate — rather than handing work off between silos. In this role, you will focus on standardizing API development through tooling and automation, improving consistency, usability, and integration velocity across services. You will leverage AI-powered tools to accelerate API design, validation, and standardization — improving developer workflows and reducing inconsistency at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Standardize API development through tooling and automation so the right approach is the default.
  • Define and evolve API standards (OpenAPI), and enforce through tooling, automation, and CI/CD workflows (not manual review processes).
  • Build and maintain systems that auto-generate, validate, and enforce API specifications (contracts, schemas, validation).
  • Integrate AI into API development workflows to improve specification quality, consistency enforcement, and documentation accuracy.
  • Reduce bespoke implementations by providing shared patterns, libraries, and templates for API development.
  • Improve API consistency, discoverability, and usability across services.
  • Enable faster internal and partner integrations through well-defined, reliable, and documented APIs.
  • Partner with engineering teams to migrate legacy or inconsistent APIs toward standardized patterns.
  • Make standardized patterns easy to adopt through strong defaults, documentation, and developer tooling.
  • Build shared libraries, SDKs, and tooling that teams use directly when developing APIs.

Ideal Experience:

  • Deep experience with OpenAPI / Swagger and API contract design.
  • Experience building or enforcing API standards through tooling (linting, schema validation, code generation, CI/CD integration).
  • Strong understanding of API lifecycle management — versioning, backward compatibility, deprecation strategies.
  • Experience building shared developer tooling, libraries, or platforms that improve consistency across teams.
  • Experience designing APIs for internal and external consumers (developer experience focus).
  • Familiarity with contract testing and schema validation approaches.
  • Experience identifying and eliminating inconsistencies across APIs at scale.
  • Strong systems thinking — ability to balance flexibility, standardization, and developer velocity.
  • Experience using AI to improve API development workflows, including generating and refining API specifications from code or usage patterns, validating contracts and identifying inconsistencies across APIs, improving documentation quality and discoverability, assisting in API design decisions and schema evolution, and analysing API usage patterns to inform design, versioning, or deprecation decisions.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience with ownership of production systems, reliability, or operational improvements.
  • Strong backend development experience (Ruby, Node.js, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of REST APIs, service contracts, API design, and software design principles.
  • Experience designing and maintaining scalable, consistent, and maintainable APIs in production environments.
  • Experience working across backend services, APIs, and production systems.
  • Experience building and operating services in AWS or similar cloud environments.
  • Good understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, and CI/CD.
  • Experience with observability, production debugging, and incident response.
  • Willingness to participate in a mandatory 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Experience responding to production incidents and contributing to reliability improvements.
  • Experience using, or strong interest in, AI-powered development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor).
  • Ability to evaluate and refine AI-generated code, APIs, specifications, and developer workflows.

How to prepare for a job interview at QUEST

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If QUEST uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.
