As a Technical Publications Engineer, you will be responsible for developing high-quality technical documentation, including installation manuals, user guides, and other technical writing requirements. This role involves collaborating with cross‑functional teams to ensure accurate, clear, and user‑friendly documentation that meets customer and organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities- Author and update installation manuals, maintenance procedures, service manuals, engineering change documentations and assembly and disassembly instructions and any other client‑facing technical documentation.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, CAD models and BOMs to develop user‑centric documentation.
- Collaborate with design engineers, manufacturing, and product teams to understand product functionality.
- Develop content for 2D/3D illustrations using tools such as Solid Edge or equivalent.
- Work within customer processes, systems, equipment, and facilities, including the maintenance of standards, procedures, processes and SOPs in accordance with national standards, international standards and customer requirements.
- Support project meetings, supplier meetings, and customer meetings providing updates and support on metallurgy function related issues as required.
- Strong technical writing and editing skills.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and 3D models.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and mechanical assembly.
- Proficiency in authoring tools.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with structural design practices and methodologies.
- Experience in designing mechanical components, parts, assemblies and subassemblies for heavy industry, power transmission systems, gear and gearbox.
- Knowledge about subsystems that impact the mechanical design/layout of the design.
- Proficient in 3D CAD package for both modelling and drawing, ideally Solid Edge.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
- 5 years or more in an engineering design role/environment involving rotating machinery.
- Experience in heavy engineering industry, power transmission systems, gears and gearboxes.
- Appreciation of bolted joint analysis, shock assessment in relation to geared transmission systems.
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
- Proficient in root cause analysis and failure mode analysis techniques.
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Detail‑oriented with a strong focus on quality and continuous improvement.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
