Q

Our customer owns and operates complex marine engineering infrastructure in the South West delivering through-life engineering services, technology, equipment consultancy and training to global defense and civil customers.

Today, the need is to understand the current and future material handling requirements of their docks and deliver dynamic proposals, options and recommendations to the client for consideration, ensuring that safe and efficient methods of mechanical handling can continue.

Typical scope of work

Engineer will be based primarily on-site with the facilities engineering team, visit the facilities and study the existing material handling systems (cranes, hoists etc.) Material refers to vessel parts of as in ships/submarines. Material handling refers to lifting and moving materials across the dockyard.

Actively engage with the client to close existing and identify future projects across facilities engineering.

Lead and develop a team of engineers working towards timely delivered projects.

Gather all the necessary engineering inputs/documents. Will need to assess how materials are currently handled in terms of lifting/moving. Will need to assess whether the current handling systems (i.e., cranes etc.) are sufficient for future requirement.

Capture the requirements, interfaces from stakeholders (users, operators, design authority etc.).

Perform studies (market survey, engineering calculation, analysis as needed).

Develop alternative options, propose appropriate solution. Study/understand current space/layout. Potential example suggestions including but not limited to additions of gantry cranes, conveyor belts etc. Explore life extension for the existing mechanical handling systems.

Periodic review and discussions with Design authority and facilities leadership.

Compile detailed reports containing: requirements, stakeholder needs, interfaces, alternate options, solution recommendations including risks.

  • Strong mechanical engineering principles

  • Knowledge of Onshore / Offshore material handling.

  • Experience in dock environment is preferred.

  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards (ASME, ANSI, OSHA) and class (BV, DNV, ABS)

  • Good experience of equipment selection (type, quantity) for dock operations

  • Knowledge of Integrity assessments, Root cause analysis, corrective actions, Condition monitoring, risk assessment.
