At Quest Global UK, we are looking for an Experienced Lead Mechanical Handling Engineer for one of our Nuclear projects based in South West England. This is a hybrid role: 2 / 3 days onsite.
The Lead Mechanical Handling Engineer will work collaboratively with the Customer within the Mechanical Handling and Building Services teams to provide technical support on non-nuclear and nuclear mechanical handling assets and facilities within the site; for example, cranes, lifting equipment and maintenance facilities.
This role may include but is not limited to:
- Supporting the Mechanical Engineering Manager in key delivery projects.
- Providing professional and flexible technical support to the ongoing operations and maintenance of DRDL extant mechanical handling assets, ensuring that all mechanical aspects of facility modifications, redesigns and new infrastructure are scoped, developed and delivered to meet operational requirements, safety standards and compliance obligations.
- Supporting the Mechanical Engineering Manager and customer to understand requirements and provide mechanical handling engineering support.
- Periodic reviews of maintenance regimes and activities.
- Specifying replacement equipment/components and supporting the production of configuration documentation for permanent modifications.
- Scoping, designing and proposing modifications to existing assets or new facilities based on customer needs and system limitations.
- Engaging in the full lifecycle development of mechanical projects, from conceptual design through to implementation and maintenance.
- Maintaining configuration of technical drawings and documentation.
- Assessing and approving technical documentation prior to customer submission, ensuring technical, regulatory and safety considerations have been addressed.
- Working with other disciplines, teams and stakeholders to deliver mechanical support for multi-discipline infrastructure projects.
- Supporting the planning and execution of installation, commissioning and testing phases as needed.
- Providing technical input to project documentation, risk assessments and progress reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Years of relevant mechanical handling engineering experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., nuclear, maritime, infrastructure, oil and gas etc).
- Expert knowledge and awareness of cranes, crane safety and associated mechanical handling systems.
- Experience of cranes/lifting equipment and crane operations, especially safety critical and safety related systems.
- Proficiency in understanding/production of electrical/mechanical engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in understanding/production of hand calculations/FEA.
- Knowledge of electrical/mechanical/hydraulic systems as typical to cranes and hauling equipment.
- Understanding of nuclear industry and/or other safety critical environments.
- Experience in working in a dockyard, marine, Defence or MoD environments particularly with asset lifecycle support.
