Job Description
As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will play a crucial role in the Defence industry, ensuring that all products and processes meet the highest quality standards.
At Quest Global we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for 3D modelling, conceptual design to Modelling, 2D modelling, design for manufacture, material selection and drawing definition output.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams to carry out design activities and deliver outputs in line with customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop 3D models and detailed 2D drawings, ensuring all design outputs are delivered to the required quality and within agreed schedules.
- Produce accurate design-for-manufacture documentation, material selection inputs, and drawing definition packages, supporting predictable and timely delivery of engineering outputs.
- Maintain and update engineering documentation, ensuring models, drawings, and associated data remain accurate, current, and well-controlled within engineering databases.
- Identify and resolve design inconsistencies or data issues across engineering records, maintaining design integrity and preventing delays to workstream delivery.
- Support senior engineers with routine design tasks—including basic calculations, compliance checks, and preparation of deliverables—ensuring these tasks align with project timelines.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to communicate design intent, coordinate dependencies and support smooth, timely progress across workstreams.
- Adapt to evolving project requirements, proactively managing your workload and keeping stakeholders informed of impacts on scheduling or deliverables.
- Work Experience
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Proven ability to create and interpret 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings, including layout, detailing and design definition.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in modelling, documentation and data handling.
- Proficiency with MS Office and spreadsheets, with the ability to quickly learn and work within engineering databases and digital tools.
- Ability to follow established engineering processes and maintain high documentation standards.
- Strong analytical thinking and effective self‑organisation skills, with the ability to manage workload in line with project schedules.
- Experience using Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD package (e. g., Solid Works, Solid Edge, Creo).
- Ability to produce high‑quality CAD models and manufacturing drawings, including basic GD&T.
- Understanding of core mechanical engineering principles relevant to component and assembly design.
- Awareness of the engineering design lifecycle and configuration control.
- Exposure to designing mechanical components or assemblies in regulated industries (e. g., defence, rail, automotive).
- Understanding of subsystems and interfaces that affect mechanical design and layout.
