We are looking to expand our ILS Engineering capability in all levels of experience and are keen to hear from you if you feel you’re ready to take the next step in your career. You must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearances for this role.
As a Senior RAM Engineer, you will have the opportunity to be involved in complex engineering projects to ensure that the UK’s submarines are safe, available, and maintainable. We are looking for an RAM Engineer to support the customer’s design team and ultimate support requirements. You will be delivering as part of an extended team, responsible for ensuring that the systems are not only high-performing but are also Operationally Available and Cost-Effective to maintain throughout their 30+ year lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:- Availability Modelling: Develop and maintain Reliability Block Diagrams (RBDs) and math models to predict platform and system availability against MoD targets within a Submarine environment.
- Risk & Failure Analysis: Lead FMECA (Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis) workshops to identify single points of failure and recommend design mitigations.
- Reliability and Maintainability (R&M): Generating claims and arguments for R&M performance predictions and substantiating these with evidence in accordance with strict MoD regulations/standards.
- Stakeholder Interface: Serve as the strategic interface between design, supply chain, and the customer to negotiate data-driven trade-offs that balance technical reliability with operational availability and through-life cost.
- RAM Lead: Managing and developing a team of Reliability Engineers, acting as the focal point within your team and overseeing the overall delivery of RAM.
- Data Reporting: Manage the FRACAS (Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System) to ensure "closed-loop" learning from testing into production.
- Spares Optimization: Able to perform complex spares optimization and Level of Repair Analysis (LORA).
- Degree in Systems, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Understanding of the use of R&M domain metrics such as availability, failure rate, Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time to Failure (MTTF), Mean Active Repair Time (MART).
- Proven experience in reliability modelling techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis, Reliability Block Diagrams, and Markov Modelling.
- Knowledge of R&M theories such as Boolean algebra; Bayesian statistics; Monte Carlo simulation processes.
- Have an awareness of S1000D and how R&M interacts with technical publications.
- Have worked in or with UK Defence, specifically as part of a Delivery Team or worked with MoD Equipment Delivery Teams as an industry partner.
- Software Proficiency: Expert user of industry-standard tools used in ARM environments (e.g. Systecon Suite, Reliasoft, Windchill Risk and Reliability). A familiarity with OPUS10 modelling tool is also desirable.
- Good Communication skills - Makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens effectively; clarifies information as needed.
- Specific submarine experience is highly desired but experience across suitable UK Defence sectors such as Aerospace is also considered.
- Deep familiarity with Def Stan 00-600 (ILS) and Def Stan 00-40/42 (AR&M).
- Experience in managing or leading a project team.
