Position

Quest Global is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to lead and support manufacturing process improvements, new product introductions and production optimisation initiatives. This role focuses on driving continuous improvement, ensuring product quality, and supporting cross-functional teams to meet cost, delivery, and quality objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and problem-solving skills to manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure build quality and adherence to relevant standards in line with the programme schedule.
  • Serve as the communication line between manufacturing/assembly and engineering, ensuring clear and accurate direction to relevant teams.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for gear profile generation (hobbing, shaping, and profile grinding) and finish grinding (journals & cones/thrust faces), liaising between Design Engineering and machine tool operators.
  • Guide manufacturability of components and machine-tool capability to achieve a right-first-time approach; support design projects in design reviews with clear input.
  • Lead PFMEAs, including process mapping, risk mitigation, and creation/approval of procedures and protocols.
  • Lead make-versus-buy assessments for complex machined components based on capability, cost, capacity, risk and certification constraints.
  • Define manufacturing routes and process assumptions for new and modified designs.
  • Provide manufacturing sign-off at design gates (PDR, CDR, release to manufacture).
  • Identify and design bespoke methods and tooling ensuring compliance with Machinery Safety regulations.
  • Assess supplier machining capability (axes, deep hole drilling, gear cutting, grinding, heat treatment, NDT, etc.).
  • Evaluate machine tools, fixturing strategies, metrology, and process control maturity.
  • Validate that suppliers can achieve tolerance, surface finish, material condition and geometric control at scale.
  • Perform supplier technical audits and manufacturing readiness reviews (MRR).
  • Collaborate with internal functions (manufacturing, design engineering, quality) and external parties as required (e.g., supply chain, auditors).
  • Create works orders and collate technical packs with accurate routings and operations.
  • Understand implications and practices associated with heat treatment processes.
  • Define critical characteristics, process controls and inspection strategies.
  • Identify manufacturing risks (process capability, tooling, distortion, yield, rework, scrap).
  • Support PFMEA, control plans and first-article inspection strategies.
  • Support supplier onboarding and part industrialisation from prototype to series production.
  • Validate machining strategies, tooling plans and inspection methods prior to release.
  • Interpret technical drawings and create/manufacture drawings.
  • Ensure planning and processes encompass Quality Assurance requirements.

Work Experience & Technical Competencies

Required Skills (Technical Competency):

  • Digital measurement methodology; develop programs to automate post-process measurement data sets and train production and quality teams to use these tools.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing methods for rotating components (turning, boring, milling).
  • Working knowledge of engineering and manufacturing techniques.
  • Detailed understanding of dimensional measurement systems and principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and create/approve stage manufacturing drawings.
  • Review drawings, GD&T, materials and finishes for manufacturability and inspection viability.
  • Challenge design assumptions that affect cost, lead time or yield risk.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to simplify geometry, tighten or relax tolerances and improve producibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor\’s/Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the Aerospace and Defense industry.
  • Experience in heavy engineering, power transmission systems, gears and gearboxes.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
  • Proficient in root cause analysis and failure mode analysis techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; detail-oriented with a focus on team, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
