At Quest Global UK, we are looking for Building Services Engineers with a strong Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering background and experience in a highly regulated industry. This role involves hybrid working, with 2-3 days onsite at Plymouth.
The Building Services Engineer will work closely with the Customer to deliver high-quality technical support across a range of non-nuclear and nuclear facilities within the dockyard. Responsibilities include:
- Refurbishment and renovation activities
- New infrastructure developments
- Ensuring compliance for heritage and listed structures
- Supporting key delivery projects
- Providing flexible and professional engineering input to construction-related activities
- Ensuring that all building services modifications, redesigns, and new systems are effectively scoped, developed, and delivered in line with operational needs, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Working transparently with various engineering discipline leads/teams to provide clear and concise reports and information regarding progress and management of Risk and Opportunities in relation to the Engineering activities
- Supporting projects as they evolve through the project engineering lifecycles
- Assessing the potential risks of specific projects and undertaking risk management in specialist roles
- Communicating and liaising effectively with a wide set of project stakeholders
- Being adaptable as project requirements evolve and ensuring relevant parties are notified of changes in the project
- Compiling and peer reviewing project and technical reports
Qualifications required:
- Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Building Services, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or a closely related engineering discipline
- Knowledge of building services, layout and industrial requirements
- Experience in developing and refining conceptual designs and detailed engineering drawings for HVAC, electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems
- Utilizing advanced CAD/BIM tools to create accurate models and blueprints
- Drafting comprehensive technical specifications and performance criteria for building services systems
- Evaluating and selecting equipment based on rigorous design performance and safety requirements
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, process engineers) to ensure seamless system integration
- Participating in design review sessions to coordinate interfaces between building services and facility infrastructure
- Considering design methodologies to streamline commissioning and reduce lifecycle costs
- Conducting risk assessments and hazard analyses as part of the design process
- Developing design mitigation strategies to address potential safety and operational risks
- Preparing and maintaining design documentation that supports safety cases and regulatory approvals
- Managing comprehensive documentation from initial design through commissioning
- Preparing detailed engineering reports and updating design revisions as needed
Additional knowledge and experience:
- Understanding of the nuclear industry and/or other safety-critical environments
- Experience in working in a dockyard, marine, Defence or MoD environments, particularly with asset lifecycle support
- Knowledge of Nuclear license conditions and Technical Assessment Guilds
- Liaising with nuclear safety and regulatory experts to verify design compliance with nuclear industry standards and regulations
- Leading design meetings and providing technical direction during the engineering phase of projects
