Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Aerospace Manufacturing / Quality Engineer with specialised expertise in gas turbine engines. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting manufacturing processes for gas turbine components and assemblies. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure they meet rigorous aerospace standards for quality, performance, and efficiency. Expertise and knowledge of Integrated Baded Rotors (IBR’s) or Bladed Disks (Blisks) would be favourable.
Responsibilities:
- Lead customer / internal investigations using problem resolution tools and techniques
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for gas turbine engine components (e.g., compressors, turbines, combustion systems, casings).
- Work closely with design engineering to ensure manufacturability of new and existing products.
- Interpret complex technical drawings, CAD models, and specifications to create detailed work instructions and process plans.
- Specify, procure, and qualify tooling, fixtures, and equipment for machining, assembly, and testing operations.
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process non-conformances or production issues.
- Support first article inspections (FAI), process validation, and PPAP as per AS9100 and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality, Design, Supply Chain, and Production to ensure smooth workflow and continuous improvement.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies to reduce cost, improve yield, and optimize cycle time.
- Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with applicable aerospace standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP, FAA/EASA regulations).Provide engineering support as required to the team and customers
- Document, summarize, write reports, and disseminate information per requirements.
Work Experience
Required:
- 3–7+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role within the aerospace industry, with a focus on gas turbine engines.
- Deep understanding of gas turbine engine architecture, manufacturing techniques (e.g., CNC machining, EDM, additive manufacturing, brazing, coatings), and material science (superalloys, titanium, composites).
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Siemens NX, CATIA, Mastercam) and PLM systems.
- Familiarity with GD&T, DFMA, and statistical process control (SPC).
- Working knowledge of aerospace quality systems and standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, additive manufacturing, or composites.
- Experience with aerospace OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers (e.g., Rolls-Royce, GE Aviation, Pratt & Whitney, Safran).
- Green Belt or Black Belt certification in Six Sigma.
- Project management or team leadership experience.
- Familiarity with regulatory audits and certification processes.
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodologies (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
Experience desired:
- Experience of structured problem-solving methodology: Lean / ACE, lead change/improvement activity / DMAIC / 6 Sigma etc.
- Previous knowledge of Integrated Bladed Rotors (IBR’s) or Bladed Disks (Blisks).
- Demonstrate a proven background to resolve problems of high complexity using structured techniques
- Previous experience in Aerospace
- Experience in relation to fitting, welding & machining is desirable
- Engineering background and technically able to identify and resolve problems
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings / CMM reports, and other engineering technical data is required
- Candidate should have a good familiarity with expectations associated with aerospace or other comprehensive quality assurance systems, including ISO9000 or AS9100
