The Project Controls Manager is responsible for the effective administration, governance, and financial control of projects across the account. The role provides essential support to the Account Director and Clients by ensuring that all project data, systems, and financial information are accurate, timely, and compliant with internal and customer requirements. The role sits within an integrated business team and supports the delivery of high profile and highly regulated Defence Programmes of work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and deliver all project administration activities across assigned programmes, including project setup within back-office systems, creation of booking codes, and maintenance of accurate project records.
- Manage and coordinate all project actions and administrative tasks, ensuring completion to agreed timescales and escalation of issues to the accountable Project Sponsor where required.
- Administer project financials, including monitoring financial performance, tracking expenditure, and supporting internal project financial reviews.
- Produce regular timesheet, expenditure, and invoicing reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with internal and customer requirements.
- Identify, investigate, and support resolution of financial issues such as revenue at risk, charging inaccuracies, or cost overruns, proposing corrective actions proactively.
- Generate clear financial and project status reporting for leadership and customers, highlighting trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Present project and financial information to leadership, demonstrating project status, financial health, and recommended improvement initiatives.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve project administration and financial processes, supporting initiatives that enhance governance, efficiency, and Contribution Margin.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Business, Finance, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience within a project environment.
- Experience in a project support, project controls, or procurement coordination role within a structured or highly regulated environment.
- Strong experience working with business systems, including project setup, time booking, financial tracking, procurement and reporting.
- Sound understanding of project and financial administration principles, including cost tracking, invoicing, and internal financial review processes.
- Proven ability to produce accurate, high-quality reports and analyse project and financial data to identify risks, issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Confidence engaging with Project Sponsors, leadership, and delivery teams to clarify requirements, explain financial or project data, and support decision-making.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, actions, and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Proactive, improvement-focused mindset, with the ability to identify process inefficiencies and propose practical, value-adding solutions.
