Development of solutions to protect safety categorised equipment from internal/external hazards. Internal hazards include fire, blast, pipe whip, steam release, missiles and explosions. External hazards include seismic, flooding, meteorological hazards etc. This is a multi-disciplinary role that will involve developing high level integrated solutions and safety arguments to protect complex systems with multiple lines of protection. Solutions may be plant level such as modifying civil structure or internal building layout. Solutions may also include the use of hazard mitigation measures (fire barriers, pipe whip restraints etc). Interfacing with a wide range of key stakeholders (Layout, Civils, Fire Protection, Human Factors, EC&I etc). Responsible for authoring high quality outputs in the form of but not limited to: Hazard Protection Measure Requirements (DOORS), Hazard Protection Measure Design Descriptions, Hazard Protection Measure Design Substantiation Reports. Ensure quality is maintained throughout the SMR project lifecycle by progressing through appropriate technical reviews/gated reviews and providing the required inputs to the main project technical review gates.
- Senior Manager Power Station Integration: Develop and manage the integrated functional design of the Power Station, ensuring that the integrated design solution meets all functional, performance and operational requirements. Lead and coordinate work to solve cross functional design issues that impact multiple parts of the Power Station. Lead and coordinate interfaces between functional islands and disciplines (e.g. Reactor Island with Turbine Island and process systems with control and instrumentation). Work alongside the design teams and safety teams to ensure the Power Plant has sufficient Defence-In-Depth across all operating conditions and plant configurations. Work alongside system owners, power station operations and Human Factors to develop and integrate detailed operating philosophy and control logic for the reactor island, including the identification of Operational Limits and Conditions. Manage cross-island design integration activities. Act as the design point of contact for cross-cutting analysis topics (e.g. PSA, availability, physical layout, Fire, environmental impact). Build and lead a team of engineers. Provide supervision, guidance and coaching across the team and develop a continual improvement culture. Technically represent SMR in interactions with External Stakeholders for assigned areas of responsibility and support the ongoing licensing process including coordination of responses to RQs/ROs. Develop robust work plans to ensure on time delivery, cost and quality is achieved for all project deliverables. Work alongside the group leads for other design teams to ensure design development plans are consistent and complementary. Managing an engineering delivery team based on an agile methodology, driving high schedule and cost certainty into product development programme. Understand and manage plant level risk associated with key product cardinal attributes. Work with due regard to Health, Safety and Environment.
