A Senior Mechanical Design Engineer plays a crucial role in the Aerospace and Defence industry, ensuring that all products and processes meet the highest quality standards. At Quest Global we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for 3D modelling, conceptual design to Modelling, 2D modelling, design to manufacturing, material selection, and concession/non-conformance (identifying, documenting, and resolving any non-conformance issues that may arise during the manufacturing process). You will work closely with cross-functional teams to carry out design activities, investigate and analyse non-conformance reports, develop corrective actions, and implement effective solutions to prevent future occurrences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out detailed design activities to meet the requirements of design for manufacture.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of non-conformance issues, including root cause analysis and failure mode analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to develop and implement design and corrective actions.
  • Monitor and track the progress of corrective actions, ensuring timely completion and effectiveness.
  • Implement drawing/definition change requests.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of non-conformance reports, investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design and manufacturing processes and reduce non-conformance occurrences.

Required Skills (Technical Competency)

  • Proficient in a 3D CAD package for both modelling and drawing, ideally PTC CREO v7 and TEAMCENTER UNIFIED.
  • First-hand experience in drafting engineering drawings including GD&T and tolerance stack.
  • Experience in designing mechanical components, parts, assemblies and sub-assemblies of engineering systems.
  • Experience in hand calculations to support initial component sizing, O-ring groove dimensions, bolt size and number.
  • Ability to compile manufacturing drawings to BS8888 drawing standard with an understanding of Teamcenter Unified (TCU) PLM to allow drawing and part sign-off.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the Aerospace and Defence industry.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and continuous improvement.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience in leading a team and technical delivery.
  • Previous experience in Creo Cabling and Simulate is desirable but not essential.
