The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of complex electrical systems and infrastructure. The role involves leading electrical engineering tasks across project phases, providing technical expertise, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, and mentoring junior engineers to drive engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the design, analysis, and specification of electrical systems including LV/HV distribution, control systems, instrumentation, and power management.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and safety codes (e.g., BS 7671, IEC, IET Wiring Regulations).
- Produce and review detailed technical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, load schedules, and design reports.
- Conduct system studies and calculations (e.g., short circuit, load flow, discrimination studies).
- Participate in design reviews, hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), and technical risk assessments.
- Support commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical systems on-site or in production environments.
- Liaise with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure integrated and efficient solutions.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and contribute to technical training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's degree or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred.
- Typically 8+ years of professional experience in electrical engineering, ideally within a regulated or complex industry (e.g., nuclear, defense, power generation, infrastructure).
- Strong understanding of electrical system design, protection, control, and integration in large-scale projects.
- Knowledge in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, Amtech, Revit MEP).
- Thorough understanding of applicable legislation, regulations, and standards (e.g., BS 7671, IEC standards).
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience managing engineering tasks within a project environment, including estimating and scheduling.
- Experience with safety-critical or high-integrity systems.
- Familiarity with Building Services Engineering or SCADA/control systems.
- Experience in preparing electrical deliverables for tender or construction packages.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations and experience working within ISO 9001/14001/45001 environments.
