At Quest Global, UK, we are actively looking for a BESS Project Manager / Project Manager having experience in the energy or power sector, specifically handling BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) or renewable hybrid projects. Hybrid / Remote Working, onsite visit on need base.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Take project ownership and lead the project delivery from contract award through to contractual Commercial Operation Date.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the client stakeholder team including the end client, owners engineer, consultant and advisors.
- Ensure the management of contracts, change orders, claims, risks and project profitability working with legal, commercial and finance teams.
- Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Oversee procurement of major BESS and HV equipment.
- Manage and lead project teams across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, commercial & HSQE functions.
- Co-ordinate grid connection, energisation and commissioning activities in conjunction with the client, appointed EPC contractor and DNO.
- Maintain schedule, budget and quality performance.
- Take ownership of all site operations, supervising and liaising with the appointed EPC contractor for the grid-scale BESS project, ensuring all activities align with the construction schedule.
- Oversee enabling works, civil groundworks, substation builds, containerised BESS installation, MV / HV cabling, and grid connection scope.
- Work in conjunction with the appointed Principal Designer ensuring identified risks and observations are actioned in a timely manner.
- Co-ordinate and facilitate HAZID studies with relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure all on-site operations comply with CDM regulations, HSE legislation, and project-specific safety plans noting appointed EPC contractor is both the Principal Contractor.
- Lead and coordinate directly appointed subcontractors, including logistics and commissioning teams.
- Work closely with the engineering and design teams to resolve technical issues and ensure buildability on site.
- Review site documentation including daily reports, RAMS reviews, permits, inductions, and quality checklists.
- Liaise with the clients on-site representatives, DNOs / IDNOs, ICPs, and EPC stakeholders.
- Monitor progress against programme, highlight risks early, and implement recovery plans if needed.
- Champion environmental and sustainability requirements in line with planning conditions and BESS best practices.
- Support testing, energisation, and handover stages, including witnessing and defect close-out.
- Provide executive reporting and governance throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Experience & Qualifications
- Previous long-term experience as a Project Manager in utility-scale energy or infrastructure projects.
- Proven track record of delivering grid-connected renewable energy assets (preferably BESS, solar, or substations).
- Relevant construction or engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree).
- SMSTS or equivalent site management certification.
- Card CSCS (Black or equivalent).
- NEBOSH General Certificate.
- First Aid at Work.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant diagnostic equipment and support systems.
- Must be a competent writer of business letters, emails, commercial and technical reports, creating and presenting project progress reports to both external and internal stakeholders.
Desirable Experience (not mandatory)
- Experience working with battery OEMs or EPCs in the BESS space.
- Understanding of HV / MV grid infrastructure and DNO connection processes.
- Electrical Authorisation or AP experience (HV desirable).
- Familiarity with QA processes during energisation and commissioning.
