Role Overview: As a Lead Electronics Engineer in our customers Electro-optics team, you will lead the electronics development of a key sensor project for the Tempest aircraft. The programme currently involves the UK and two other nations, so experience of working with partner companies or suppliers in different countries and excellent communication skills are essential. This is a key role in developing, maturing and delivering a mission-critical, electro-optical system that will be installed onto the aircraft platform. Ideally, you should have experience of managing and leading a team of electronics engineers in the development of complex electronic hardware. The role will be based at our customers site in Edinburgh and the successful candidate will have the opportunity for overseas travel to work with consortium colleagues in Italy and Japan.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead a team of Electronics engineers in developing the sensor systems electronic hardware through the full engineering lifecycle from requirements analysis to customer delivery.
- Ownership of electronics work packages, agreeing budget and schedule with engineering management, day-to-day planning and execution of the teams work, supervising engineers in completion of their tasks, and status reporting to key stakeholders.
- Lead the electronics architecture development while working closely with Systems, Mechanical, Firmware and Software Leads to optimise system capability and performance while minimising volume, weight and power.
- Act as primary point of contact and interface with Engineering Management for all aspects of electronics development.
- Coach and mentor the project electronics team in terms of their technical and professional development.
- Liaise with engineers from partner organisations within the multi-national consortium and end user community.
- Ensure electronics development is progressed in accordance with applicable company processes and procedures.
- Support our customers wider electronics team by conducting design reviews and knowledge sharing.
Work Experience Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:
- Essential
- Experience of team leadership and work package management.
- Experience of developing complex electronics system architectures.
- Expert in at least one or more areas of electronics design, such as analogue, mixed-signal, digital / FPGA / DSP or power electronics.
- Knowledge of developing electronics using a structured/gated development process.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience of working as part of a team.
- Desirable
- Experience of developing electro-optic and / or servo control technology, such as: Optical Detectors, Lasers, Camera Imaging systems, Control Theory & Motor / Servo Drive electronics, Power electronics & Communications systems.
- Experience of developing electronics for avionic systems.
- Experience across all phases of the Engineering Product Life Cycle, on several projects.
- Experience of coaching junior members of an electronics team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electronics Engineering or related STEM subject.
- UK citizenship is mandatory to be able to clear the background checks and obtain SC clearance.
- Current valid SC clearance would be an advantage.
